| Here's my Nav/Strobe/Landing light setup... I had
been thinking of how I would get my lights in the wing tips since I
upgraded to the "sheared" tips from Van's, and with a little
help from David
Koelzer (who is building a Sonex), and also some motivation from Vince
Frazier... Here is what I came up with... I will be using
MR-16 type bulbs. They are 12 volt and come as bright as 100
watts... The picture at right is of the assembly not quite
finished...
I have
designed a kit for my MR75 Landing lights

At left, an early picture of the tips with just the Nav/Strobe
assemblies installed... At right you can see the cutouts I made in
the wing tip for the landing light assembly and the Nav/Strobe assembly...
You can see I had to open up the top a bit for the spring to clear, and
you can see the nut plates I installed to hold the Nav/Strobe assembly... |
 |
 |
Here is the landing light assembly... The top of the assembly
will have a little adjustment, but the bottom two adjuster have a large
travel... The entire unit is adjustable and serviceable without
taking the wing tip off... |

 |
At left, another view of the light assembly... At right you can
see the how the installation fits on the inside... |

 |
I was going to reposition the Nav/Strobe assembly with the strobe end
higher on the pad so the light will have an unobstructed view of the
runway ahead, but once I got it all done, put power to it, and tested the
beam, it really didn't make that much difference... |
 |
 |
Here's more pix... I had to re-make the front
plate, as I didn't have the lower adjusting holes in the right place,
and the actual hole the light has to go trough was too high and too
small... |
 |
 |
And here are the finished tips, less paint... I decided I wanted
to try and keep the cover attachments to a minimum, so I was extra careful
in getting them to it good... And considering my lack of talent and
PATIENCE, I think they turned out pretty good... |
