One rivet in the wing skin for mounting... |
And, I will be able to inspect the brackets very easily... |
Flap Installation. Started by installing the flap
brace, it is pre-punched along with the spar, so it's a no-brainer. |
You have to trim the brace a little to fit the spar... |
The wing skins are not pre punched, and neither is the flap
brace where it mounts to the flap, you have to drill these in place along
with the flap hinge... |
I used one of the wing skins to drill the flap
brace/hinge holes. The spacing should be 1 1/4"... |
I simply drew a line for edge distance, laid the skin on
top and drilled away... |
Once I had one wing done, I laid those skins on top of the
others to drill them... This method worked GREAT! |
When lining up the flap to the wing, I was more worried
about getting the skin, flap brace, and flap hinge perfectly lined up than
having the flap hang down exactly the same as the aileron, so my flap
hangs down a sckosh more than the aileron... |
Flap clamped in place, ready to drill hinge... |
1/4" distance between aileron and flap... |
I started drilling in the middle and worked my way out... |
Left flap drilled and clecoed in place... |
Almost looks like a complete wing! |
Both flaps are drilled and clecoed now, so I started working
on the bottom skins... With both skins clecoed in place, I installed
the 2 inboard ribs I left out of the wings... This method worked
well, I allowed me to do all the riveting in an open area, and gives a
attach good base for the skins. This is important because you have
to peel the skin back to rivet from now on... |
I also got the vent installed on the bottom skin... |
Be sure you don't rivet the holes that will be used to
attach the wing root fairing... |
I just about finished riveting the bottom wing skins
on. TIP: If you haven't' riveted the inspection plate
nutplates on yet, DON'T! They will tear your arms to shreads when
you try to reach through the holes to buck! |
I used universal head rivets to attach the flap to the
skin/flap brace. Got the tip from other RV builders to add more
strength in this area... |
