Bottom main skins going on... |
 |
Top of leading edge skin drilled... |
 |
Bottom of leading edge. After I drilled the top, I pulled the
bottom down flush with the bottom main skin, and then drilled... I drilled the ribs
after this picture, along with the tank splice plate. It can be seen at the left of
this picture... |
 |
Simple tool for moving ribs around behind skins while drilling. I
used a 2x2 piece of wood about 2' long with a notch cut in it so I can grab the rib... |
 |
Both wings now have all main skins drilled, and the left is
completely drilled, less tank... |

Both wings now completely drilled, less tanks... |
 |
Left wing walk drilled. It still needs to be cut to
size. I spent the rest of the night deburring the left wing. TOO MANY
HOLES! And I still have to debur the skins, and dimple the skins and
skeleton... Than I have to do it again for the right side! |
 |
I added a few holes to the tank splice plates and riveted them to
the leading edge rib so I wouldn't have to mess with them during riveting of the leading
edge skin. I spent the weekend deburring, countersinking, and dimpling... |

Left leading edge top skin riveted... |
 |
Leading edge in the jig to finish riveting the skin on... |
 |
Finished leading edge... Next I riveted the leading edge ribs
to the main spar, and then the skins to the main spar... |
 |
I got the holes for the tie-down and pitot tube drilled, I still
need to clean them up, and weld the tie-down closed... |
 |
Van's had shipped me the wrong platenuts for the wing access
plates, and finally got the right ones in the mail, so I worked on those. |
 |
I got the access plates for the left wing installed... |
 |
I have been doing a lot of dimpling, and working on the
fuel tanks lately. I did, however, get the top-outboard skin on
the left wing riveted over the weekend... |
 |
We finished the top skins on the left wing... I
did leave out two ribs on the inboard side of each wing to ease installation.
Although I should have left out 3 ribs, leaving out 2 is do-able... |
 |
I finished squeezing the trailing edge of the top of
the left wing... |
 |
My friend and RV-4 driver, Loyd Remus and I riveted
the outboard top skin on the right wing... |
 |
I was playing around with mounting the aileron on the
left wing... I still need to prime and rivet the aileron mounts... |
 |
Aileron to belcrank pushrods are done... |
