Vetterman Exhaust installation
buy a Vetterman exhaust
I was going to try and make my won exhaust, but I broke down after talking with Larry Vetterman and bought one...  I am glad I did!
The system fit like a glove, and will probably be the best looking thing on the plane.....AND NOBODY WILL SEE IT!
I took Larry's hanger kit and modified it to make one hanger hold both pipes...
They pretty much just fell into place and the hose keeps them from hitting the engine mount.  I'll have to see if it's going to work once I have the engine running...
There was plenty of cowl clearance.  At least 3" everywhere...
The pipes point down slightly, but wont be a drag problem because the cowl scoop bulge blocks them...
I also got  Robbins Heat muff...  It also fit perfectly...

ROBBINS' WINGS (RICK ROBBINS) 303-422-9389 HEAT MUFFS

Control Cables installation
I ran the cables through the fire about where the plans say to...  If I could do it over again I would get the 60" cables from Van's...
On my O320-E3D, the 55" cables fit, but just barely, they couldn't have gone any farther...  5" more would have been great...
The cable bracket fit perfectly and placed the cables right where they needed to be...  At right you can see the routing inside the fuse...
At left, that push/pull cable you see there is going to be for the oil cooler door...  At right you can see the finished control quadrant...
More pix of the filtered air box assembly...

UPDATE...  After about 80 hours of flying, one my Vetterman exhaust hangar brackets broke so I made some new ones...

I made these new exhaust hangars out of  3/4"x1/8" flat aluminum stock, some 1/2" ID rubber hose, and some SS pop rivets...
The hangars are about 7" long.  I ended up making another one about 4 1/4" long to connect to the two exhaust pipes together...
In these pictures you can see how I attached the hangars.  I am going to try them like this for a while to see if I may need to move them or not...
