Clecoing the skin to the rear spar for match drilling. Then
marked the spar location for making the stiffeners. |
First set of stiffeners drilled to skin. |
Both sets of stiffeners drilled to skin. |
Counter weight rib drilled. Next step is to match drill to
rear spar, install in skin, and match drill ribs, and counter weight skin. |
Skeleton and skin ready to be primed. |
I am using Sherwin Williams 988 self-etching primer. |
First set of stiffeners back riveted to skin along with trim
stiffener plate. |
Both sets of stiffeners riveted along with skeleton riveted and
ready to install in the jig for final assembly. |
Elevator in the jig, checking everything before starting final
assembly. |
Drilled and clecoed elevator horn assemble to skin, spar, and rib. |
Counter weight skin and ribs match drilled to skin. |
Another shot of the counter weight assembly. |
I dimpled the nutplates and riveted them to the trim stiffener
plate. |
Here is a view of the bends I made on the elevator. It didn't
turn out as nice as the bends on the trim tab. I may cut them off and make a rib to
put in there instead. |
I have a no-hole yoke for my Tatco squeezer, so getting into tight
places to rivet is no problem. |
Here I am bending the tabs on the trim tab. |
The trim tab turned out very nice. I think it was the jig. |
I was able to get the assembly in the jig much tighter than the
elevator, so it turned out much nicer. |
Trim tab bent and ready for final assembly |
Checking the fit of the hinge. To drill the hinge to the
elevator, I inserted the hinge in between the elevator skin and spar, clamped it in place,
and used the existing holes in the skin as pilot holes for drilling the hinge... |
Hinge riveted to the elevator. |
I was able to squeeze the rivets on the bottom of the trim tab. |
Top of completed left elevator. |
Bottom the the completed left elevator. |
Test fit of the fiberglass tip on the left elevator. I will
be tackling the fiberglass while waiting for the wing kit to arrive. It is due the
middle of January 2000... |
Right elevator skeleton and skin ready to rivet together. |
In tight places, I used the male dimple die and the hole in the
squeezer yoke to dimple... It worked great. |
Almost finished, just need to roll leading edge. Next is
fiberglass work while I wait for my wing kit... |
